Enemy at the Gates Vince Flynn & Kyle Mills

Picking up where the “tour de force” (The Providence Journal) Total Power left off, the next thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling Mitch Rapp series follows the CIA’s top operative as he searches for a high-level mole with the power to rewrite the world order.

Mitch Rapp has worked for a number of presidents over his career, but Anthony Cook is unlike any he’s encountered before. Cunning and autocratic, he feels no loyalty to America’s institutions and is distrustful of the influence Rapp and CIA director Irene Kennedy have in Washington.

Meanwhile, when Kennedy discovers evidence of a mole scouring the Agency’s database for sensitive information on Nicholas Ward, the world’s first trillionaire, she convinces Rapp to take a job protecting him. In doing so, he finds himself walking an impossible tightrope: Keep the man alive, but also use him as bait to uncover a traitor who has seemingly unlimited access to government secrets.

As the attacks on Ward become increasingly dire, Rapp and Kennedy are dragged into a world where the lines between governments, multinational corporations, and the hyper-wealthy fade. An environment in which liberty, nationality, and loyalty are meaningless. Only the pursuit of power remains.

As “one of the best thriller writers on the planet” (The Real Book Spy), Kyle Mills has created another nail-biter that not only echoes the America of today, but also offers a glimpse into its possible future.

  • Not worth the buy

Honestly I’m disappointed in the direction that Kyle has brought this series. At this point it’s better if we let the series rest. And I say that with a heavy heart, this is one of my favorite book series. SPOILERS Killing off someone like Mike Nash is absolutely unacceptable and especially the way he did it. Turning him a traitor, turning him against Mitch? Irene? Absolutely not. His character development made him into a true believer in country and he would NEVER turn his back on Mitch or Irene. They’re his closest confidants, meaning more to him than his family at times. END OF SPOILERS This feels like a forced book with no other purpose other than to play on the readers love of the series. It’s time to end this series if this is the direction we’re going. Desecrating characters that were developed so well just for the sake of a plot twist is unacceptable.
  • Boring!

I found it to be a bit silly. Maybe not predictable, but the editors should not have approved this. Looking forward to the next Grey Man book!
  • Believable

Believable weaving of today’s situation with a few interesting twists. Doesn’t take sides in today’s political wars.

Finished book in a day. Of course you can’t go wrong with Mitch Rapp! Wished there was more closure development. Hoping for quick turnaround of the next installment. Great job Kyle.
  • Always a Good Read

This is a kinder, gentler, Mitch Rapp but just as lethal. Quick read.

Great Book. Was surprised at end. Hard to put down.
  • Not the best.

    Good story. Very unsatisfying ending.
  • Good book but lousy ending

    By Mirage Flyer
The book was captivating and an enjoyable read, but the ending left me with no resolution. Maybe because the author is planning the sequel.
  • It’s time to go

Mitch Rapp has not been Mitch Rapp since Vince passed. It is an unfair expectation that Kyle Mills or any other author could match what Vince created. It is time for Mitch to ride off into the sunset.
